Is it possible to build a report that shows whether there is a statistical difference in our engagement/topic scores between different population groups?

Have you used the Heat Map report so far? This report allows you to segment the scores across all topics by team, department, location, manager, etc. You can then identify whether there are any outliers in scores across the overall population. This article may help you too.
